One of the pleasant therapeutic surprises that we have found with the massage chair as a form of therapy, is the number of folks who have noticed changes in lower extremity neuropathy. You see, these dang foot and calf massagers are turning out to be rather therapeutic, instead of just being a “neat” function that makes your feet feel good. Now, I am not saying that all neuropathies can be helped by the massage chair ottoman/calf-foot massager, but I am saying that many clients have noticed changes for the good with their lower extremity symptomatology.
We first saw this when a client tried out a massage chair we had set up at a local trade show. He was a diabetic and had back pain, but when he got up out of the massage chair, he remarked how different his feet felt. He mentioned that it was the first time in “years” that he had improved sensation in his feet. Needless to say, we were all quite impressed. Now, it may have been a circulation issue that was affected, rather than a neurological deficit, but the bottom line is that a diabetic with persistent neuropathy noticed increased lower extremity sensation. That alone validates the therapeutic value of the massage chair ottomans that most massage chairs have.
